A General Framework for Crankshaft Balancing and Counterweight Design

In the automotive field, requirements in terms of carbon emissions and improved efficiency are shifting focus designers towards reduced engine size. As a result, dynamic balancing an with strict limitations on number cylinders, weight available space becomes challenging task. The present contribution aims at providing designer tool capable selecting fundamental parameters needed to correctly balance internal combustion engine, including masses geometry elements be added directly onto crankshaft shafts. relevant that distinguish from others already proposed two. first is comprehensive matrix formulation which makes fit for wide variety configurations. second optimisation procedure selects not only position mass centre gravity counterweight but also its complete geometric configuration, thus instantaneously identifying overall dimensions crankshaft.
